New Cohort at Marches Training
Two new School Direct teacher training cohorts have commenced their study at Marches Training, based at The Marches School. The secondary cohort is one of the largest that the school has trained with eighteen future teachers spread across a range of subjects including Music, Maths and Modern Foreign Languages.
Just over half are based at The Marches School for their first placement and partner schools across Shropshire are hosting the remaining students.
The school also offers a primary route into teaching in partnership with local primary schools. Ten students have joined the primary cohort and are already starting to teach in classrooms across North Shropshire. The primary programme offers the students an opportunity to specialise in English, Maths or SEN with greater subject input through the year ensuring that they are very well prepared for future roles in schools.
School Direct allows individuals to learn alongside some of the best teachers working in our classrooms today, and be part of the team from day one. By offering bursaries of up to £30,000 in key subjects together with outstanding training and development, schools are attracting the very best new teachers.
The Marches School will be working in partnership with the University of Chester from 2018. The University of Chester has been making history since 1839, it is one of the oldest higher education systems in the country. It is a member of the Russell Group which represents 24 leading UK universities which are committed to maintaining the very best research, an outstanding teaching and learning experience and unrivalled links with business and the public sector.
Kate Aspinall, Teaching School Development Manager said “We are very proud of the School Direct programme, now in its fourth year, we have trained over 100 teachers who have secured jobs all over the country and locally. We can offer the opportunity for teachers of the future to study without having to travel to a university and to be able to live at home.” She continued, “We hold an information evening every Tuesday from 5pm until 7pm for anyone who would like to talk to us about the course.”
